“So you should do like a frog.”
Shunryu Suzuki in a source talk for “Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind”
How does a frog sit?
Just being a frog.
Hidden in the reeds
at the edge of the pond.
Pumping the bellows
deep into the night.
A sitting chorus.
Sometimes they all stop
then one starts again.
The others join in.
Sitting.
When I sit on the cushion
I can feel my lungs.
Expanding, letting go.
Many parts moving.
Bones, muscles.
Apparently sitting still.
Pumping the bellows
in silence, observant.
Watching dragonfly thoughts.
Water strider memories.
Sitting.
Watching the ocean
I know:
mystery is like the tide
rushing in and pushing out
it has a rhythm
it won’t be known
other than flowing with it:
dancing like kelp
waving like anemones
breathing like mussels
I am in it
and there is
nothing to say
